why be afraid?
Yoda said, “fear leads to anger,anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”
While anyone off the street will tell you that anger is an emotion;and while the above statement is cliche, it does ring true. I realized awhile back that the reason(s) people(myself included) are angry is that we are afraid of something. I was watching TV the other day, and made the statement that “anger drives people crazy” I have seen anger destroy whole families, and often the people that are angry have no idea of what they are doing to those around them.
One of the most potent messages of God I feel; other then the whole salvation though His Son’s death and resurrection, is “Do not be afraid”..I daresay that’s it is not out of line to ask “what/why..are you afraid?” Believe it or not, that is the question everyone must face Christians, non-believers and even Muslims alike! IT hurts being asked that question..Let me tell you what I am afraid of??
- I am afraid of losing control
- feeling useless
- losing family and friends
- that no one will take me seriously
- that God Cannot or won’t help me! or my family
- being alone
But isn’t that why God came as Man, in the Christ so that we would not have to be afraid.. Christmas was that announcement; that almost is to big for me to comprehend. That God would love us so much that He sent His only Son that whosoever believes in Him, that we would not perish but have eternal life.(John:3;16)
and He would not condemn the world but save it.(John 3;17) and heal us.(1 Peter 2:24) So that we would not have to worry about being afraid..Afraid of the things; that despite what we tell ourselves,keep us up at night. Still.. C.S said “pain is Gods megaphone to a deaf world” perhaps these feelings/fears/thoughts while planted by the Devil , are used by God to remind us that He is in control; reminding us.. “do not be afraid”.
